Product Measurement and Sizing Guide
| Measurement | Details |
|---|---|
| 1 - Seat Depth | Measure from the most posterior point of the body to the inside of the knee, minus at least two inches. Some prefer more leg overhang to make room for their hand when lifting their leg |
| 2 - Back Height | Measured from the seat base to the top of the wheelchair back. Depends on how much upper back support is needed, and also affects freedom for the upper body to rotate. |
| 3 - Rear Seat to Floor | Measurement from the ground to the rear seat edge. Relative to the front seat-to-floor dimension, this determines the rearward slope ("dump" or "squeeze") of the wheelchair seat |
| 4 - Hanger Angle | Determines how far the toes extend away from the body, measured from the horizontal. A tighter angle allows the wheelchair to turn around in less space. Depends in part on ability of the knee to bend towards the perpendicular |
| 5 - Seat Width | Determined by the widest point of the body from knee to hip, plus an inch to ensure room to move. Consider bulk of clothing, particularly a heavy winter coat, if relevant |
| 6 - Wheel Camber | Angle of the wheel relative to the vertical. More camber improves stability and agility, but also limits ability to pass through narrow spaces. A typical daily wheelchair uses three degrees of camber. |
| 7 - Front Seat to Floor | Measure the leg from the back of the knee to the sole of the foot. Then subtract the thickness of the cushion when it is compressed. Next, add a minimum of two inches for footrest clearance. Do not add the footrest clearance if the wheelchair will be foot-propelled® |
| 8 - Footrest Width | Measure from the inside of each legrest tubing the distance or desired distance between legrests |
| 9 - Center of Gravity | Measure from the front of the seat back post to the center of the rear axel. |
| 10 - Seat to Footrest Length | Measure from the edge of the seat upholstery to the top rear of the footrest. |
| 11 - Backrest Angle | Measure the the angle of the back post to the floor. Ninety degrees will be perpendicular to the floor, to approximate the angle from the back post to the seat, subtract two degrees from measurment for every .5" of dump |

Tracer SX5 Recliner Standard by Invacare Buyer’s Guide
The Tracer SX5 Recliner Standard by Invacare is a durable mobility solution designed for individuals who require extended positioning support and pressure relief. This mechanical seating system integrates a heavy-duty frame with a dynamic backrest, allowing users to shift angles comfortably throughout the day. Engineered for long-term reliability in clinical or residential environments, the chair provides a reliable means of independent or assisted mobility.
Tracer Durable Carbon Steel Frame Architecture
The core structure of this wheelchair is built on a robust carbon steel frame that ensures exceptional stability and a long operational lifespan. The Tracer line is recognized for its ability to handle daily wear while maintaining structural integrity under continuous load. The frame features a dual-embossed upholstery system that resists stretching and sagging, providing consistent support for the user's back and thighs over years of use.
Dynamic Recliner Backrest for Position Management
A primary feature of this model is its mechanical reclining backrest, which allows for smooth adjustment from an upright posture down to a near-flat orientation. This recliner capability is essential for managing orthostatic hypotension, facilitating safe transfers, and redistributing body weight to prevent pressure sores. The dual counter-balance gas cylinders ensure that caregivers can adjust the back angle effortlessly and safely with minimal physical strain.
Manual Mobility and Attendant-Assisted Control
Designed as a fully manual propulsion system, this chair features large rear wheels with ergonomic handrims that allow users with adequate upper-body strength to self-propel. For caregivers, the rear push handles include integrated trigger releases for the reclining mechanism, ensuring full control over the chair's configurations. The manual design eliminates the need for batteries or electronics, making it a reliable and low-maintenance option for daily transportation.
Standard Clinical Compatibility and Adjustments
This wheelchair adheres to standard dimensions and component configurations, ensuring it fits easily through conventional doorways and integrates well with common clinical accessories. The configuration includes heavy-duty front rigging options, such as elevating leg rests, which are crucial when the chair is tilted back to keep the lower extremities properly positioned. The standard specification makes it a versatile choice for hospitals, nursing facilities, and home care setups.
Enhanced Stability with Front Rigging and Anti-Tippers
Safety is a critical element when shifting a user's center of gravity backward, which is why the system includes rear anti-tippers as a built-in safety measure. These components prevent the frame from tipping backward when the seat is fully reclined. Additionally, the front castors and rear wheels are spaced to maximize the footprint of the chair, ensuring absolute stability whether the user is seated upright or resting in a fully extended position.
