Product Measurement and Sizing Guide
| Measurement | Details |
|---|---|
| 1 - Seat Depth | Measure from the most posterior point of the body to the inside of the knee, minus at least two inches. Some prefer more leg overhang to make room for their hand when lifting their leg |
| 2 - Back Height | Measured from the seat base to the top of the wheelchair back. Depends on how much upper back support is needed, and also affects freedom for the upper body to rotate. |
| 3 - Rear Seat to Floor | Measurement from the ground to the rear seat edge. Relative to the front seat-to-floor dimension, this determines the rearward slope ("dump" or "squeeze") of the wheelchair seat |
| 4 - Hanger Angle | Determines how far the toes extend away from the body, measured from the horizontal. A tighter angle allows the wheelchair to turn around in less space. Depends in part on ability of the knee to bend towards the perpendicular |
| 5 - Seat Width | Determined by the widest point of the body from knee to hip, plus an inch to ensure room to move. Consider bulk of clothing, particularly a heavy winter coat, if relevant |
| 6 - Wheel Camber | Angle of the wheel relative to the vertical. More camber improves stability and agility, but also limits ability to pass through narrow spaces. A typical daily wheelchair uses three degrees of camber. |
| 7 - Front Seat to Floor | Measure the leg from the back of the knee to the sole of the foot. Then subtract the thickness of the cushion when it is compressed. Next, add a minimum of two inches for footrest clearance. Do not add the footrest clearance if the wheelchair will be foot-propelled® |
| 8 - Footrest Width | Measure from the inside of each legrest tubing the distance or desired distance between legrests |
| 9 - Center of Gravity | Measure from the front of the seat back post to the center of the rear axel. |
| 10 - Seat to Footrest Length | Measure from the edge of the seat upholstery to the top rear of the footrest. |
| 11 - Backrest Angle | Measure the the angle of the back post to the floor. Ninety degrees will be perpendicular to the floor, to approximate the angle from the back post to the seat, subtract two degrees from measurment for every .5" of dump |

Tracer IV Heavy-Duty Manual Wheelchair by Invacare Buyer’s Guide
The Tracer IV Heavy-Duty Manual Wheelchair by Invacare is a robust mobility solution engineered for individuals who require a stronger, more durable frame for daily transit. Built to accommodate higher weight capacities while remaining maneuverable, this model serves as a dependable option for both clinical facilities and independent home use. By utilizing reinforced structural components, the wheelchair ensures user safety and stability without compromising on classic manual operations.
Tracer Reinforced Steel Frame Strength
The backbone of this wheelchair is its heavy-duty dual cross-braced carbon steel frame, which is specifically designed to support increased weight limits. The Tracer framework minimizes structural flexing under load, providing a rigid and reliable ride over various indoor and outdoor surfaces. This enhanced durability ensures that the chair can withstand the rigors of frequent, long-term use while maintaining its alignment and tracking.
Heavy-Duty Weight Capacity and Seating Options
Designed with a generous weight capacity of up to 450 pounds or more depending on configuration, this heavy-duty chair is built for optimal weight distribution. The seat and backrest are constructed from dual-embossed vinyl that resists tearing, stretching, and moisture buildup. This heavy-duty upholstery works in conjunction with the wider seat dimensions to offer a comfortable and secure seating area for bariatric users.
Invacare Engineering and Component Reliability
Built with the high manufacturing standards associated with the Invacare brand, every component on this chair is chosen for longevity. From the low-maintenance dual-sealed precision bearings to the heavy-duty front riggings, the design focuses on minimizing down-time and maintenance costs. The integration of industry-standard parts also means that adjustments, repairs, and replacements are straightforward and efficient.
Manual Propulsion and Maneuverability Features
As a traditional manual mobility device, the wheelchair features large, heavy-duty composite rear wheels equipped with composite handrims for user self-propulsion. The wheel placement is optimized to give the occupant efficient leverage, reducing the physical effort needed to move. For caregivers, the heavy-duty rear push handles offer an ergonomic grip for steady manual assistance and control during transport.
Adjustable Footrests and Armrest Configurations
To accommodate different body types and specialized comfort needs, the chair offers customizable components including removable or flip-back armrests. The front riggings, such as the elevating leg rests or swing-away footrests, can be altered easily to allow for safe transfers into and out of the seat. These components ensure that individual positioning requirements are met while enhancing overall daily utility.
