Product Measurement and Sizing Guide
| Measurement | Details |
|---|---|
| 1 - Seat Depth | Measure from the most posterior point of the body to the inside of the knee, minus at least two inches. Some prefer more leg overhang to make room for their hand when lifting their leg |
| 2 - Back Height | Measured from the seat base to the top of the wheelchair back. Depends on how much upper back support is needed, and also affects freedom for the upper body to rotate. |
| 3 - Rear Seat to Floor | Measurement from the ground to the rear seat edge. Relative to the front seat-to-floor dimension, this determines the rearward slope ("dump" or "squeeze") of the wheelchair seat |
| 4 - Hanger Angle | Determines how far the toes extend away from the body, measured from the horizontal. A tighter angle allows the wheelchair to turn around in less space. Depends in part on ability of the knee to bend towards the perpendicular |
| 5 - Seat Width | Determined by the widest point of the body from knee to hip, plus an inch to ensure room to move. Consider bulk of clothing, particularly a heavy winter coat, if relevant |
| 6 - Wheel Camber | Angle of the wheel relative to the vertical. More camber improves stability and agility, but also limits ability to pass through narrow spaces. A typical daily wheelchair uses three degrees of camber. |
| 7 - Front Seat to Floor | Measure the leg from the back of the knee to the sole of the foot. Then subtract the thickness of the cushion when it is compressed. Next, add a minimum of two inches for footrest clearance. Do not add the footrest clearance if the wheelchair will be foot-propelled® |
| 8 - Footrest Width | Measure from the inside of each legrest tubing the distance or desired distance between legrests |
| 9 - Center of Gravity | Measure from the front of the seat back post to the center of the rear axel. |
| 10 - Seat to Footrest Length | Measure from the edge of the seat upholstery to the top rear of the footrest. |
| 11 - Backrest Angle | Measure the the angle of the back post to the floor. Ninety degrees will be perpendicular to the floor, to approximate the angle from the back post to the seat, subtract two degrees from measurment for every .5" of dump |

Tracer IV Heavy Duty Manual Wheelchair by Invacare Buyer’s Guide
The Tracer IV Heavy Duty Manual Wheelchair by Invacare is a reinforced mobility solution engineered for individuals who require exceptional frame strength and broader seating dimensions. Built to withstand the demands of frequent daily use, this chair combines a robust carbon steel frame with low-maintenance components. It serves as a dependable utility choice for hospitals, care facilities, and home environments where long-term durability and structural integrity are paramount.
Invacare Reinforced Structural Frame Design
The foundation of this mobility aid relies on a premium, triple chrome-plated carbon steel chassis engineered by Invacare. The design incorporates gusseted sides, reinforced caster journals, and 14-gauge dual cross braces that prevent the frame from flexing under load. This intensive reinforcement ensures that the wheelchair maintains a true, straight track during self-propulsion while resisting the typical wear and tear associated with navigating thresholds and uneven surfaces.
Heavy-Duty Weight Capacities for Extended Reliability
Engineered explicitly for heavy-duty performance, this model is built to accommodate higher weight demands without sacrificing maneuverability. The standard configuration reliably supports up to 350 pounds, while an upgraded high-capacity package elevates the structural threshold to support up to 450 pounds. This enhanced capability ensures that the mechanical joints and axles remain secure and stable, providing peace of mind to both users and caregivers.
Bariatric Seating Accommodations and Sag Prevention
To ensure proper posture and long-term comfort, the bariatric seating options range up to 24 inches in width. The seat and backrest are upholstered in heavy-duty, dual-embossed vinyl that features a specialized inner liner designed to combat material stretch. This anti-sagging liner ensures the seat stays firm and flat over years of use, preventing the user from slipping into a poor pelvic alignment that can cause lower back discomfort.
Adjustable Dual-Axle System for Custom Wheelchair Height
A key mechanical advantage of this manual model is its integrated dual-axle positioning system. This feature allows technicians or caregivers to alter the seat-to-floor height between a standard adult profile of 19.5 inches and a lower hemi-height configuration of 17.5 inches. Lowering the frame allows shorter users to comfortably reach the ground, facilitating independent foot-propulsion and making the chair highly adaptable to individual physical requirements.
Convenient Folding Mechanics and Transport Profile
Despite its massive structural strength, the wheelchair features a highly functional folding design that collapses to a compact width of just 13 inches. The removable armrests—available in desk-length for table access or full-length for maximum forearm support—can be quickly detached to lighten the frame or simplify transfers. This collapsible nature allows the heavy chair to be packed into vehicle trunks or stored away efficiently in tight spaces.
