Product Measurement and Sizing Guide
| Measurement | Details |
|---|---|
| 1 - Seat Depth | Measure from the most posterior point of the body to the inside of the knee, minus at least two inches. Some prefer more leg overhang to make room for their hand when lifting their leg |
| 2 - Back Height | Measured from the seat base to the top of the wheelchair back. Depends on how much upper back support is needed, and also affects freedom for the upper body to rotate. |
| 3 - Rear Seat to Floor | Measurement from the ground to the rear seat edge. Relative to the front seat-to-floor dimension, this determines the rearward slope ("dump" or "squeeze") of the wheelchair seat |
| 4 - Hanger Angle | Determines how far the toes extend away from the body, measured from the horizontal. A tighter angle allows the wheelchair to turn around in less space. Depends in part on ability of the knee to bend towards the perpendicular |
| 5 - Seat Width | Determined by the widest point of the body from knee to hip, plus an inch to ensure room to move. Consider bulk of clothing, particularly a heavy winter coat, if relevant |
| 6 - Wheel Camber | Angle of the wheel relative to the vertical. More camber improves stability and agility, but also limits ability to pass through narrow spaces. A typical daily wheelchair uses three degrees of camber. |
| 7 - Front Seat to Floor | Measure the leg from the back of the knee to the sole of the foot. Then subtract the thickness of the cushion when it is compressed. Next, add a minimum of two inches for footrest clearance. Do not add the footrest clearance if the wheelchair will be foot-propelled® |
| 8 - Footrest Width | Measure from the inside of each legrest tubing the distance or desired distance between legrests |
| 9 - Center of Gravity | Measure from the front of the seat back post to the center of the rear axel. |
| 10 - Seat to Footrest Length | Measure from the edge of the seat upholstery to the top rear of the footrest. |
| 11 - Backrest Angle | Measure the the angle of the back post to the floor. Ninety degrees will be perpendicular to the floor, to approximate the angle from the back post to the seat, subtract two degrees from measurment for every .5" of dump |

Tracer SX5 Recliner Manual Wheelchair Custom by Invacare Buyer’s Guide
The Tracer SX5 Recliner Manual Wheelchair Custom by Invacare is a heavy-duty mobility solution built for individuals who require specialized pressure relief and extended seating comfort. Combining a robust frame with a dynamic reclining backrest, this system offers enhanced support for users with limited upper-body stability or those who need to change positions frequently throughout the day. The customizable nature of the chair ensures it can be configured to meet specific clinical and everyday mobility requirements.
Tracer Durable Frame and Structural Integrity
At the core of this mobility device is the signature Tracer carbon steel frame, which delivers exceptional durability and strength. The frame is engineered to withstand daily transport and long-term use while maintaining a stable platform for the user. A dual-embossed vinyl upholstery liner adds extra reinforcement to the seat, preventing sagging and ensuring consistent pelvic alignment over time. This heavy-duty construction provides peace of mind for both users and caregivers regarding structural longevity.
Dynamic Recliner Backrest for Position Management
The standout feature of this model is its mechanical recline capability, which allows the backrest to shift smoothly from an upright position to a deeply angled tilt. This function is essential for managing orthostatic hypotension, assisting with passive pressure distribution, and facilitating easier transfers. The gear mechanism is designed for smooth adjustments, enabling caregivers to modify the back angle easily without disrupting the occupant's comfort or stability.
Invacare Custom Configuration and Seat Sizing
Recognizing that proper positioning requires an individual fit, this Invacare mobility platform offers multiple seat widths and depths to match different body types. Caregivers and clinicians can select the appropriate dimensions to ensure optimal thigh support and prevent lateral leaning. Additionally, the custom options allow for the integration of various armrest styles and front riggings, ensuring the final setup aligns perfectly with the user's daily functional goals.
Manual Propulsion and Caregiver Attendant Brakes
Designed primarily as a manual propulsion system, the chair features large rear wheels with ergonomic handrims that allow self-propulsion when the backrest is upright. For times when caregiver assistance is required, the rear framework includes accessible attendant brakes and rear-side levers to manage the reclining feature safely. The wheel configuration is optimized to provide a smooth glide over indoor surfaces and level outdoor pathways with minimal rolling resistance.
Removable Headrest Extension and Components
To support the upper body when the chair is tilted backward, the system includes a removable headrest extension that provides crucial cervical support. The component can be easily detached when the chair is in an upright position or during transport to save space. Coupled with elevating leg rests that rise in tandem with the reclining back, the entire configuration ensures the user's body remains properly aligned and supported in every position.
