Product Measurement and Sizing Guide
| Measurement | Details |
|---|---|
| 1 - Seat Depth | Measure from the most posterior point of the body to the inside of the knee, minus at least two inches. Some prefer more leg overhang to make room for their hand when lifting their leg |
| 2 - Back Height | Measured from the seat base to the top of the wheelchair back. Depends on how much upper back support is needed, and also affects freedom for the upper body to rotate. |
| 3 - Rear Seat to Floor | Measurement from the ground to the rear seat edge. Relative to the front seat-to-floor dimension, this determines the rearward slope ("dump" or "squeeze") of the wheelchair seat |
| 4 - Hanger Angle | Determines how far the toes extend away from the body, measured from the horizontal. A tighter angle allows the wheelchair to turn around in less space. Depends in part on ability of the knee to bend towards the perpendicular |
| 5 - Seat Width | Determined by the widest point of the body from knee to hip, plus an inch to ensure room to move. Consider bulk of clothing, particularly a heavy winter coat, if relevant |
| 6 - Wheel Camber | Angle of the wheel relative to the vertical. More camber improves stability and agility, but also limits ability to pass through narrow spaces. A typical daily wheelchair uses three degrees of camber. |
| 7 - Front Seat to Floor | Measure the leg from the back of the knee to the sole of the foot. Then subtract the thickness of the cushion when it is compressed. Next, add a minimum of two inches for footrest clearance. Do not add the footrest clearance if the wheelchair will be foot-propelled® |
| 8 - Footrest Width | Measure from the inside of each legrest tubing the distance or desired distance between legrests |
| 9 - Center of Gravity | Measure from the front of the seat back post to the center of the rear axel. |
| 10 - Seat to Footrest Length | Measure from the edge of the seat upholstery to the top rear of the footrest. |
| 11 - Backrest Angle | Measure the the angle of the back post to the floor. Ninety degrees will be perpendicular to the floor, to approximate the angle from the back post to the seat, subtract two degrees from measurment for every .5" of dump |

Tracer SX5 Manual Wheelchair Custom by Invacare Buyer’s Guide
The Tracer SX5 Manual Wheelchair Custom by Invacare is a highly adaptable mobility solution designed for users requiring personalized seating configurations and long-term durability. Built around a carbon steel frame, this manual wheelchair accommodates custom specifications such as variable seat widths, armrest styles, and seat-to-floor heights. This modular framework makes it an ideal option for both institutional settings and private homes where mobility needs change over time.
Tracer SX5 Lightweight Carbon Steel Construction
A key structural advantage of this manual chair is its durable yet lightweight frame. Weighing less than 36 pounds without the front riggings, it reduces the physical effort required for self-propulsion and minimizes user fatigue. The reduced weight does not compromise stability, as the frame is reinforced with 14-gauge crossbraces. This strategic design balances structural integrity with a manageable weight, allowing for straightforward transit and handling by caregivers.
Everyday Folding Design for Seamless Transport
The practical utility of the chair is enhanced by its traditional side-by-side folding mechanism. Caregivers or users can easily collapse the chair by lifting the center of the seat, drawing the large drive wheels together into a compact profile. This space-saving configuration simplifies storage in home closets or vehicle trunks. The intuitive folding action ensures that the wheelchair remains highly portable for medical appointments, errands, and social outings.
Dual Axle Adaptability and Seating Adjustments
Versatility is built directly into the frame via a dual-axle positioning system. This feature allows technicians to alter the seat-to-floor height between standard and hemi levels, which is useful for individuals who propel the chair using their feet. Accommodating multiple seat-to-floor orientations ensures proper physical alignment and ergonomic leg positioning. This multi-position frame base eliminates the need to buy an entirely separate chair as a user's physical configuration changes.
Heavy-Duty Reinforced Upholstery and Arm Options
The custom seating surface features heavy-duty inner liners designed to resist stretching and sagging after prolonged daily use. The dual-embossed vinyl or nylon upholstery provides a clean, professional aesthetic that is exceptionally simple to wipe down and sanitize. Additionally, the chair can be customized with flip-back, desk-length, or full-length padded armrests. These configurations assist with comfortable upper-body positioning and clear access to tables or desks.
No-Flex Wheels and Low-Maintenance Components
The drive system consists of flat-free, smooth-riding urethane tires mounted on specialized no-flex rear wheels. These components absorb minor vibrations from uneven sidewalks or interior flooring thresholds, providing a more consistent ride. Equipped with low-maintenance, dual-sealed precision bearings, the wheels glide smoothly over time without requiring frequent calibration. The rear wheel locks are easily accessible, ensuring complete stability during independent transfers.
