Upgrading your tires and tubes can make a real difference in comfort, safety, and mobility. High-quality tires and tubes improve traction, absorb shocks, and enhance maneuverability, letting you navigate different terrains with ease — and extend the life of your chair.

“Pick pneumatic for a smoother ride, or solid for near-zero maintenance — the right tire changes how your chair handles every day.”

Why Choose Quality Tires & Tubes?

Better Traction — Quality tread grips indoors and out for safer, more confident rolling.

Smoother Ride — Pneumatic tires and tubes absorb shocks and vibration over rough surfaces.

Fewer Flats — Solid tires and inserts cut down on punctures and downtime.

Right Fit, Every Time — Multiple sizes and valve types to match most wheelchairs.

Wheelchair Tires and Tubes FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

What is the difference between pneumatic and solid wheelchair tires?

Pneumatic (air-filled) tires give a smoother, more cushioned ride and better shock absorption, but can go flat. Solid tires and solid inserts never go flat and need almost no maintenance, though the ride is firmer. Your choice depends on comfort versus low upkeep.

How do I know what size tire or tube my wheelchair needs?

Check the numbers printed on the side of your current tire (for example, 24 x 1 or 25-540). That size, along with your valve type, tells you which replacement to order. If you're unsure, call us and we'll help you match it.

What valve types do wheelchair inner tubes use?

The most common is the Schrader valve (the same wide valve used on cars). Some tubes use a narrower French/Presta valve, and others have a 90-degree car valve for easier access. We stock tubes in each style.

What is a solid tire insert?

A solid tire insert replaces the inner tube with a foam or solid core, so the tire can never go flat. It's a great option if you want to eliminate punctures and the hassle of pumping tires, with only a slightly firmer ride.

How often should I replace my wheelchair tires?

Replace tires when you see worn or bald tread, cracks in the rubber, or repeated flats. Inspect them periodically; how fast they wear depends on your mileage, terrain, and whether you use pneumatic or solid tires.

What are Schwalbe tires?

Schwalbe is a respected tire manufacturer known for quality and durability. We carry options like the Schwalbe One and Schwalbe Downtown, which offer excellent rolling efficiency and grip for daily wheelchair use.

Do I need a tire lever to change a wheelchair tire?

A tire lever makes removing and reseating the tire much easier without damaging the tube or rim. Our Plastic Tire Lever is designed for the job, and you'll find more fitting tools in our Tools for Tubes & Tires section.

What's the difference between a wheelchair tire and a caster?

The large rear wheels carry the main tires, while casters are the smaller swiveling front wheels that steer and support the chair. We carry replacement casters, including SoftRoll, Rollerblade-style, and LED light-up options.

How do I fix or prevent flat tires on my wheelchair?

You can repair a flat by replacing the inner tube, or prevent flats altogether by switching to a solid tire or a solid tire insert. Keeping pneumatic tires properly inflated also reduces the chance of pinch flats.

What tire is best for outdoor or rough terrain?

For rougher surfaces, a pneumatic tire with good tread offers cushioning and grip. If you frequently travel off smooth pavement, you may also want to look at our off-road wheels for added traction and stability.

Are these tires and tubes compatible with all wheelchairs?

Our range fits most manual and power wheelchairs, but compatibility comes down to your wheel size and valve type. Confirm your measurements, or contact us and we'll recommend the right tire, tube, or caster for your chair.
