The Gription Strip
The Gription Strip is a rubber strip that goes all the way around the top surface of the oval handrim. It is a high friction strip that provides a grippier propulsion surface. The grippier surface is particularly helpful when going up ramps, hills, or when traversing difficult surfaces (e.g., like deep-pile carpeting). The remaining surfaces of the oval (the side surfaces) are hard anodized in black to provide a smooth braking surface.

Surge Handrims
I love the grip they provide, they give a lot more power to push around.

New rims make me happy!
So I've been only using them a short amount of time, but so far I'm loving them.
I came from the simple vinyl-coated handrims that sell with the Ki Catalyst that I use. Those work great, but I tear them up all the time.
My HOPE is that since the grip-strip is only on the top of the rim that it will not get torn up like my old vinyl ones do.
Only time will tell whether or not the grip strip will hold up. If it doesn't, I'll have wasted a bunch of extra money. But I have hope! -

They are the best hand rims I have tired in 37 years in a wheelchair. I am 72 years old.

Surge Handrims
Much easier to grip then the stock round metal rims that come standard, and much less tiring. The Gription rubber strip is not only effective, but imperative. The carbon fiber side portion is quite smooth, which makes slowing on the steeper hills difficult. I have found that partial use and burns from the Gription strip on hills is often necessary. The Surge rims don't seem to be lighter then the stock round rims. Maybe even an ounce or two heavier, but not a deal breaker. Unless I find something even better then these handrims, I will be putting them on my other chairs also.
