Using the Gate Belt to Assist a Para Ladder User

Instructions For Limited Mobility Users Needing Assistance

Most individuals not possessing the required upper extremity strength for unassisted use of this device can also use the Para Ladder™ with the use of a Transfer Belt and an assistant. See instructions as follows:

  • Attach the Transfer Belt to the users waist following the instructions with the belt.
  • The assistant must stand behind the Para Ladder™ and firmly place one hand on either top rail of the Para Ladder™ (see Fig.1).
  • Using the opposite hand, the assistant reaches down and firmly grabs one of the hand grips located at the back of the user (see Fig.1).
  • At the same time the user is lifting up to reach the next seat, the assistant gently pulls upward on the Transfer Belt (see Fig. 2) to assist the user. Using this method, the assistant exerts the required strength for this task through the assistants arm and shoulders.
  • If two assistants should be needed, the assistants should stand on each side of the user, each grab a grip on the Transfer Belt and all three lift simultaneously.
  • Do not use this device if the user experiences any problems or discomfort. Do not use the Bate Belt or the above method of assistance if you do not understand these instructions.
